Mixing It Up For Discobelle

I'm really happy about the mix I made for Discobelle's Mixin' It Up series. It's way different than anything I've made before and kind of in the tradition of Dickie Greenleaf. I'm even happier that they posted it up so fast! Thanks dudes! And thanks to DJ Neoteric for being the man with the masterplan.

... don't forget to grab Graveleaf's The Crusade as well. It's at the bottom of the post.

(thee) B-Day Weekend Recapitulation

Last weekend was so ill that it took me a whole week to even be able to talk about it. Thursday through Sunday was a whirlwind of madness. We started at Bar Lubitsch on my actual BDay, May 15th, thanks to Nate Day and GOC for dropping excellent sets, so excellent that I was all..

Huge props to the crew who came out fron NYC, Boston and Miami for the occasion... Thats love.

Saturday day, it was time for the summers first edition of Swimming With Sharks. The first battle of the year was Yacht Rock vs Jamrock.

Yacht Rock clearly took the win... thanks to my teammates Pube$ and DJ Hoff.

There was no way we could lose, considering I started my set off with this:
Player - Baby Come Back

Later that night, it was time for the much awaited, much anticipated but never duplicated:

...the shit was crazy and the halfpipe/dancefloor was in full effect.

Wendy City was breakdancing

My co-host Alex and our buddy Mike from Early Man

The dude on the left was our security guard... He had Nate shook.

... and of course Blu Jemz and I won for being the most retarded

...but here's whats really great. Sets were recorded!

Curtis Vodka came down and played an incredible set of Acid House, House Classics and Disco that had me truly open.

Curtis Vodka Live at Downtown Saturday Night 5-17-08

Then Stretch got on and really satiated my appetite for rave.

Stretch Armstrong Live at Downtown Saturday Night 5-17-08 (BACK!!)

Alex and I would like to thank the Downtown Saturday Night crew for all their help and all of our friends who came out and made the party one of the best ever...
But fuck all that sentimental shit cause we woke right up the next day and went straight to opening day of The Do Over!
Stretch destroyed that shit!

You gotta respect a dude who can play a killer set from 1am-4am on Saturday night and then wake up Sunday and kill yet another set from 4pm-7pm. Thats why Stretch is one of the best in tha game.
(I heard his set was recorded and hopefully will show up somewhere soon.)

I had the the luck of having my set right between Stretch's and J-Rocc's. No pressure at all right? I honestly wasn't mad at myself and Aloe Blacc, one of the party's hosts, happened to record it.

(thee) Mike B - Live At The Do Over 5-18-08 ft Aloe Blacc on the mic!

Massive thanks to Haycock, Jamie Strong and Aloe for having me back. Really one of my favorite party's to play at and attend.

But wait...there's more.

That night at Banana Split we had a surprise set from one of my favorite new producers, D.I.M.

He killed it and was dumb cool...
And I'm so not mad at this track
Midfield General - Disco Sirens (D.I.M. Remix)

Me, Sunday night at 2AM.

SO DONE

B-crest out.

Keith From Up Da Block - Barack Da Vote

This is so good. A really excellent parody of the George Kranz classic Din Da Da touching on current blue state darling, Senator Barack Obama. This is a sneak peak at what will be a full length album from Keith, coming soon on Game Recordings. Yes, that same Game Recordings that brought us classic rap wax from Eminem, Royce, Blahzay and Thurston Howl III, not to mention everybody's favorite soft porn series, Hip Hop Honeys.

House Of Pain - Fed Up (Remix ft Guru)

Tommy Boy - 1996

I found this while going thru a bunch of old rap records the other day. Why is this song so dope? Here's why:

"Back in '89 I dropped too much acid, rocked from Lake Havasu out to Lake Placid, while you busy braggin' on the people you blasted, I'm asking how many days have you fasted?"
-Everlast

House Of Pain - Fed Up (Remix ft Guru)

Yo, San DIego...
