It's Our Anniversary

Today makes it one year of MBVSDG. I couldn't decide whether I would just quit this madness and chalk it up to a year long social experiment or if I was gonna do a super post celebration of some kind. I think I'll do neither. Instead I'm posting one of the most important recordings ever in American music history. Oh, and I'm not pulling the plug on the blog, because I like it. Chuuuch, preach, tabernacle.

THE WEDNESDAY B-SIDE number 23

Frontline Records - 1996

Unerneath our gruff exteriors, we all love Jungle. Last week at Cinespace Dan O played a whole set of it and set it off crazy! I then ran into my homie Nate at Banana Split on Sunday and he was going on about how much he loves Drum & Bass... And oh yeah, my buddys and current electro kingpins LA Riots; reformed junglists. The truth is, there is a lot of really fucking good jungle, I've always repped for DJ Zinc and the rest of The Ganja Kru... This remix is a murderous one.

Remix SKAnday

The acclaimed Palms Out Sounds posted that thing I did with The Specials' classic Gangsters. It was part of Remix Sunday 90. Wasn't that nice of them?

THE WEDNESDAY B-SIDE number 23

IRS - 1989

This is what I like to refer to as giving up the goods. Though this is a somewhat easy to find dollar bin record, I've never heard anyone else play this. It was on the B-Side of one of the many 12" pressings of this massive late 80's hit. It's super funky and was edited by Chep Nunez, who died shortly thereafter. To me it sounds a lot like the shit folks are trying to replicate now. Which is cool with me, because I like this track, as well as those.

Fine Young Cannibals - She Drives Me Crazy (Driven Crazy Dub)

*though the picture says Side A, the other side says Side 1. But it's definitely the b-side, buhlee-dat.

**oh, and by the way, what happened to comments? Is that not cool anymore?

The Murdera

My homie DJ Spider made a dope remix of the mid 90's underground classic, Tried By 12. His friends made a video for it. It's an extra special sneak peek into the life of a white DJ superstar who makes BMore remixes.

The MP3 will be available to buy in the next few days... I'll post a link when it is.

Here's the OG video which is one of the ghetto-est videos ever. As it should be.

My homie Des was the rapper on that record and he had some heat! I gotta dig up the demo he gave me a few years ago and post some of it soon.

THE WEDNESDAY B-SIDE number 22

White Label - 2000

Jaques Da Booty is Felix Buxton & Simon Ratcliffe who are better know as Basement Jaxx. Here's a sweet old school house vibe remix of an R&B classic from one of their many excellent white label releases.

Wale @ Cinespace Tonight

I'll be djing for Wale as he performs at Dim Mak Tuesdays at Cinespace tonight. Pase Rock, who killed it at Banana Split last week will also be taking the stage. Come see some rap for once!

I dip, you dip, we dip.

THE WEDNESDAY B-SIDE number 21

Virgin - 1988

This song pretty much rules in all it's incarnations.

Neneh Cherry - Buffalo Stance (There's Nothing Wrong Sukka Mix II)

Suffer For Fashen

My homie and international player DJ Fashen just sent me his most recent mix entitled Supastah. It's really sick.

DJ Fashen - Supastah

Click here for the impressively long tracklist.

As a bonus... as featured in the mix, here's Fashen's mash of Does It Offend You, Yeah's Battle Royal vs The Pop Lock It Drop It Remix. It's been getting getting tons of run at Banana Split via Mr. Steve Aoki.

And make sure to peep Fash's ill blog : Ahi Tuna & Waffles

I'm A Genius...

...well, at least according to Franki Chan over at iheartcomix. Thanks duder!

Thieves Like Us - Drugs In My Body (Sir Graves Remix)

I played this at Banana Split last Sunday and it was definitely the track of the night. It was like 1:35am, the floor was getting a lil' bit lazy and it seemed like the evening may have been running it's cool down lap. As soon as this dropped, it was like a meth-amphetimine shot in the eyes of all those in the vicinity. The original is one of my favorite tracks of the last year and this remix really breathes new dancefloor life right up it's dumper. Rock that shit homie.
