THE WEDNESDAY B-SIDE(s) number 20

Two Pop's, one post.

Yesterday, as usual, Eli Esco and I were discussing lower level Wu affiliates Dark Skinned Assassins. That led us to Pop Da Brown Hornet, who I've always really liked. He's got a great voice and strong delivery and made some rad songs. Here's the B-Side to the classic Black On Black Crime, which is one of the best indie rap 12"'s of the 90's, as per Eli.
*** I just noticed that the second verse is definitely dude from Dark Skinned Assassins... what a full circle!

I then was digging through the P's for that 12" when I came up on Pop Megga's Ghetto News 12" from the same year. It uses a loop from Jane's Addiction's Ted Just Admit It and is produced by Casanova Rud!

Muscluar Halloween

My buddy Dan Sena is a good DJ and a good promoter (he's also got some production in the works!) He throws a weekly in OC called Busy Work at Detroit Bar on Wednesdays. Lucky for us all, Halloween fell on a Wednesday this year and he is having me as a guest, along with a great new addition to the frightfully impressive Modular label: Muscles! His new album, Guns Babes Lemonade, has been getting a lot of love in my car lately, particularly the tracks Sweaty* and Futurekidz. Check it out!

DJ Sneak (I Heart series pt. 5)

DJ Sneak can, at the same time, make the deepest funkiest tracks and the hardest house ever made. He co-produced Digital Love, arguably Daft Punk's finest hour and has remixed the Backstreet Boys. Thats what I call both extremes. Since the early 90's, this member of Da Mongoloid crew has been a prominent player in House music and has released records and remixes on basically every label out there. His mixtapes, particularly the Green Bush series, are also excellent. From the very first time I listened to one of his records to the last time I saw him DJ (which was last year) Carlos Sosa has been one of my favorites.

Joachim Garraud - Rock the Choice (Lifelike Rmx)

Fuck Me I'm Famous - 2005

On paper, a french filtery Lifelike remix of a record that samples Devo's Freedom Of Choice, sounds like the best thing ever made. It actually is not. It's still really good though, and at the right party, at the right volume, the sounds you are about to hear, can be devastating to your ear-ear-ear-ear...

THE WEDNESDAY B-SIDE number 19

Metalbox - 1997

I hate it when I have two back to back Weds B-Sides... I just feel all like "it's been a whole week and I haven't even shared my really hard to find music for free." And with oink gone I know you guys need all the free shit I can muster! Hey, guess what? Here's another awesome house record from 1997 aka the most talked about year up in this bitch. It just happens that way. Can't help it. Steve Loria used to play the bejeeziss outta this one. And he was the man. You should really check some of his old mixes which are up at one of the best websites i've ever seen*.

THE WEDNESDAY B-SIDE number 18

Tape Kingz - 1996

Featured on not 1 but 2 dope DJ Premier mixes, this flavorful morcel from G-Depp (who would later go on to drop the extra p and sign to Bad Boy) was the B-Side to a DJ LS-One & DJ Dummy party record on Tape Kingz. 1996 at it's randomest.

The Saga Of TTL LA Radio

As some may know... last month The Knish Hit Squad (DJ Trident & myself) were featured on the Blu Jemz hosted TTL LA Radio which streams over at Scion.com. It was alot of fun. Pase Rock also did a set (killed it) and an interview (fucking hilarious.) Now that it's been taken down, I figured I'd post the uncensored mp3's. (The ones that streamed were cleaned up (by yours truly) because the Toyota folks gotta keep it clean.) So here's a chance to revisit these treasures or hear them for the first time if you were too lazy to peep the show while it was streaming.

So a couple weeks ago, Blu Jemz had his blackberry stolen just days after losing his sidekick which I beleive was replacing another lost phone. I saw him on IM and started talking shit when he hit me with this:

I had to take a snap shot. Something about that icon and the bubble text... It's just perfect.
To add insult to injury, here's a picture of him and his girlfriend Lax wearing matching shirts:

Seriously though, James & Lax are the shit.

Shout to DJ Haul aka The King of Scion Radio. He also has a funky fresh show over there. Check out all the dope shows up at Scion Broadand including shows hosted by The Rub, Roy Davis Jr, Mark The 45 King, Franki Chan & more...

And peep the new TTL LA Radio featuring Eli Escobar, Curtis Vodka, Lloydski & Roger Yamaha (with a guest appearance by me!)

THE WEDNESDAY B-SIDE number 17

Tag - 1996

I don't wanna talk about where I was or what I was on the first time I heard this. I just wanna make that perfectly clear. What I will say is that if all Tribal House was this rad, I'd listen to more of it.

The Blood Arm- Suspicious Character (Mike B Edit)

I wanted to field test this for a couple weeks before putting it up on here... It has been setting dance floors aflame all around LA. Time to try it in your home town!

BONUS:

The 12" also had an amazing remix by one of my all time favorite remixers, Dominique Torti, who was responsible for what I consider to be the best Harder Better Faster Stronger remix ever and that incredible edit of the Dimitri From Paris's Remix of Stestasonic's Talkin All That Jazz.

NEW PARTY

THE WEDNESDAY B-SIDE number 16

EMI - 1997

The sample basically makes this track feel like Affirmative Action pt 2, minus the stupid Foxy Brown verse with the bad math. I feel like it may have had one and got cut out because the song is only 2 minutes long... Such a dope track though. AZ kills it as he does every 20th song he makes and this beat, brought to you by Track Masters is flaming hot. We used to bump this pretty heavy in my homie Daniel's green Ford Explorer, Eddie Bauer edition of course.

AZ - Sosa

50 Cent, Lloyd Banks & Tony Yayo - The Blast Freestyle

G-Unit - 2002

Just before signing to Shady/Aftermath, 50 and G-Unit took over New York with their remakes of every current rap song... This particular one was on the b-side of the original white label Wanksta 12" before it was re-mixed by Dr. Dre. I played it crazy heavy at Cheetah's and would bring back the part where he says "after theis spot, it's Cheetah's and NV's" over and over again. My man Ari still asks me to play this almost every time I see him out. I'll usually oblige, it's just that dope.
